These two, hand painted, French, faience dessert plates from Moustiers measure 6" across so they're small, perfect for a petite sweet.
There are no chips, cracks, or crazing, however, please examine the photos carefully as there are small white areas that look like dots, especially on the bird on the first plate. The journal Ceramics Technical (July 2017) explains:
The white spots in the over glaze wash color field are caused by organic materials such as sulfates, nitrates and other organic volatiles in the clay body that have not been completely removed during either the bisque (or glaze firing cycles). Subsequently, in the glaze firing organic materials burn producing a gas which moves through the glaze layer, separating the over glaze color and revealing a smooth surfaced round white spot in the glaze.
There are other areas around the plates' edges, which show the same issue and an area in the third photo that looks like a large pin prick.
**Do let me know if you would like more photos as I'll be happy to oblige.
