This French jet black choker with graduated beads has a fishhook clasp and is from France. The beads are faceted, and there are knots (on black cord) in between each bead. I estimate this to be circa early 1900s and possibly a piece of mourning jewelry.
The circumference of the choker is 15.5" end to end, including the clasp, so it is a true choker. Please measure your neck to make certain this will fit without discomfort.
French jet is actually glass and not the same as jet. Jet is lightweight and warmer to the touch. French jet has the attributes of glass-- a heft and cool to the touch.
****Condition: Please note that there is some chipping to the beads, but this is only visible upon close examination, especially when using a loupe. Please examine the photos carefully and let me know if you would like more as I'll be happy to oblige.
