This antique, French book of poetry, La Nouvelle Abeille du Parnasse (The New Bee of Parnasse), is from 1806 and is in poor condition. The covers are bowed and chipped, with very pronounced damage to the front, reverse and spine. The pages are dog-eared with foxing and staining. Some damage/paper loss to the last page, which is the table of contents. Edges of many of the pages exhibit some loss and wear as well.
214 pages on laid paper. (Please examine the last photo to see the ribbing visible on a page. Laid paper was used prior to the mechanization of paper making in Europe.) Frontispiece engraved by Françoise Huot. Dimensions of book are approximately 5.5" x 3.25".
Includes poetry from Madame Deshoulières (popular during the reign of Louis XIV), de Léonard, Florian, Racine (1600s French dramatist), Delille, Legouvé (who had a son who was a French dramatist), Vigée, Deguerle, and François de Neufchateau (a French statesman who was also a poet).
The printer was Chez Le Prieur, a Parisian printing house in existence as far back as 1781.
