Antique, Jahncke's Patent Mitrailleuse Needle Case, Best English Steel Needles Egg Eyed, 100 Sharps

$45.00

This antique, enamel covered metal, Jahncke's Patent Mitrailleuse Needle Case has the aforementioned on one end and "Best English Steel Needles, Egg Eyed 100 Sharps" on the other. Mitrailleuse translates from the French to "machine gun."

Late 1800s, early 1900s. According to the www.nationalarchives.gov.uk, Jahncke was a "tin box manufacturer of Canonbury Works, Dorset Street, Islington. Founded in 1873 by Ernest Jahncke and incorporated in 1893. Bryant and May acquired an interest in 1895, Jahncke boxes being used for their wax vestas. A separate French company was formed in 1920 under the name of Établissements Jahncke which purchased a factory in Rue Levert, Paris (see D/B/BRY/4/8/58). Jahncke Ltd was liquidated in 1963."

One end of the case has a prong that slides the cap open when turned, exposing a small hole through which a needle can be extracted or deposited.

There are needles within the case, but I've not counted them.

Dimensions are 2 ¼" in length by approximately ¾" across the ends.

*****Condition: Please note there is pitting/enamel loss to the marbled red enamel of the case. Please examine the photos carefully and let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.

Thank you for looking.
