French, "Fat Lava" Vase, Marked Gavarnie

$85.00

This French vase is marked Gavarnie and is described as "Fat Lava," referring to the way in which it was glazed. Pottery glazed in this manner is usually attributed to pottery from the 1960s-1970s from West Germany although there are other pieces that have originated elsewhere. French Fat Lava pottery is sometimes referred to as Emaux des Glaciers.

Gavarnie-Gèdre (Once separate communes but merged in 2016.) is a commune in southwestern France, in the Hautes-Pyrénées.

Dimensions are 7.5" at its tallest point and 5.5" at its widest. The base is approximately 2.5" x 2". The vase's opening is 2 ¼".

The vase weighs approximately 16 ounces.

*****Condition: Please note the arrows in the last photo pointing to an area of discoloration near one handle where it meets the vase opening. Please examine the photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
