This graduated antique French jet necklace with barrel clasp is 19" in length from one end of the clasp to the other end. French jet is glass and not actual jet or lignite coal. French jet was used to replace depleted jet supplies. The black cord is knotted between each bead.
When examined closely with a loupe, small chips ("flea bites" in jewelry parlance) to the surface of the beads are visible. These are not visible to the unaided eye.
Circa late 1800s, from France. Possibly worn as mourning jewelry at one time.
