This brooch from France was crafted in the early 20th century, probably early 1900s, based on the clasp and the way the end of the pin protrudes from the edge of the brooch. This was done to make the brooch easier to attach onto the heavier clothing women wore in the 1800s, early 1900s. It features Anne de Bretagne or Anne of Brittany and is quite possibly silver plate (If it is silver, it is unmarked) with a thin layer of gold plating. The border surrounding Anne is comprised of fleurs-de-lys and ghoulish creatures, often depicted in the art and iconography of the Middle Ages (Moyen Age). Also, fleurs-de-lys are visible in the gilded area.
Brooch measures 26 mm across.
