WWII Era Croix de Lorraine Pendant, from France

Sorry, this item has sold.

This pendant of a pressed, very lightweight and thin gold-colored metal is the Croix de Lorraine, a symbol of a free France, adopted during 1871-1918 and again during WWII. The Croix de Lorraine or Lorraine Cross has a much earlier history, though, as it originated in Hungary in the 12th century. It became known also as the Cross of Anjou in the 16th century. During WWII, it became a symbol of de Gaulle's Free French Forces in answer to the Nazi swastika.

The pendant measures 23.5 mm x15 mm and has no hallmarks or maker's marks. Again, it is comprised of a very thin, lightweight metal.

Thank you for looking.
