Rococo Revival/Louis XVI Style Medal in Brass Stand of Venus (Aphrodite) in a Chariot Pulled by Putti

$65.00

This piece is from Belgium but I don't know its original provenance. It depicts an oft-shown theme in art of Venus (Aphrodite in Greek mythology) riding in a chariot pulled by putti or cherubim. I am dating the piece to circa 1800s because of its rococo revival/Louis XVI style brass frame and the distinct possibility it could be a Grand Tour souvenir.

The medal itself appears to be much lighter weight-wise, almost like tin, than its backing as well as the frame holding it. There is a significant patina to the medal as well as tor the frame.

*****Displaying the Piece: Please note that this is difficult to display on a tabletop because of its heft. The thin easel stand that is supposed to aid in displaying the piece is no match for the heft of the surrounding brass frame and the heaviness of the brass piece upon which the medal is mounted. The frame would have to be leaned against something if it were displayed on a tabletop. I believe it is possible to hang the piece on a wall for an alternate way of displaying it.

The frame measures 3.25", not including the embellishment at the top.

Thank you for looking.
