This icon of an oil-painted Christ (and what appear to be screen printed hands and feet and the Sacred Heart) on linen is from France but I am unsure of its exact provenance. It is circa late 1800s and measures 14 cm x 11 cm.
I am not sure why the icon depicts three hands and three feet. The three hands are sometimes used to refer to the Virgin Mary in iconography describing the Mother of God of the Three Hands. (Please see https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2019/06/28/101839-icon-of-the-mother-of-god-of-the-three-hands for an explanation.) The hand positions with three fingers held together and two fingers held together represent, respectively, the Trinity and Christ's human and divine natures.
*****Condition: The fabric is wrinkled, but I've not endeavored to remove the wrinkles and will leave this up to the discretion of the new owner. There is some fraying along the edges. Also, there is some yellowing of the paint at the neckline of Christ's garment. Many icons on linen are tempera-painted, but tempera does not characteristically yellow so I believe this to be oil. Please examine the photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
