WWII Era 800 Silver and Blue Enamel Croix de Lorraine Pendant, from France

The Croix de Lorraine, a symbol of a free France, was adopted during 1871-1918 and again during WWII. The Croix de Lorraine or Lorraine Cross has a much earlier history, though, as it originated in Hungary in the 12th century. It became known also as the Cross of Anjou in the 16th century. During WWII, it became a symbol of de Gaulle's Free French Forces in answer to the Nazi swastika.

This pendant has a hallmark (boar's head) denoting at least 800 silver content. The front is covered in blue enamel. Dimensions are 1½", including the bale, by 15/16" at its widest.
