RESERVED for A: Italian Painted Wooden Icon of Madonna and Child

This Italian made icon of the Madonna and Christ child is paint on wood. It looks as if the brass hanging portion was added at a later date. It's also possible that this icon was part of a triptych but I am unsure. There are condition issues as seen in the photos. The chip seen in the second photo is the most glaring. Examine the corners in the fourth photo closely and the upper corners in the first photo for wear. Please let me know if you need more photographs.

Mary is holding Christ, who has a halo with two portions of a red cross visible. Mary's veil has the symbol for her seven sorrows, iconography attributed to Roman Catholicism. There is also a flower at her breast, and there are several flowers associated with Mary when one considers the symbolism.

The back of the icon has "Made in Italy" in the wood. The measurements are 5 7/8" from point to point and 2 5/8" across the center.
