This papier-mâché dog bank is probably circa 1940s. Different types of banks were very popular during WWII as their production was meant to encourage people to save for the war effort.
This cute pooch may be a Schnauzer or Scottie (Scottish Terrier). He stands approximately 7.5" from his base to an ear tip. The base is approximately 3 ⅞" x 2 ⅛".
There is something that looks and sounds to be a piece of stone or perhaps a bit of papier-mâché from the manufacturing process within the bank as it rattles when shaken. There is no hole in the bottom through which a coin could be removed so if money is deposited into this bank, the bottom will need to be cut to remove the money.
There is surface wear on this piece. Please examine photos carefully and do let me know if you'd like more photos as I'll be happy to oblige.
