This shaving mug is probably circa late 1800s. I believe the rose floral design, which is worn, is a transfer. There is scrollwork on the china as well as a detailed handle (right-handed). The measurements are 3" across the opening, 3.5" from the base to the lip, and almost 3" across the base.
These differ from mustache cups, which were used to protect a gentleman's mustache from the cup's contents. This shaving mug has a partition with holes to hold a soap cake and allow for water drainage.
According to The Journal of Antiques & Collectibles, the shaving mug heyday was between the years of 1870 and 1920. Decorated mugs such as this one were the most plentiful, and it was not unusual for a man to have a shaving mug with what might be considered feminine decorations like flowers or birds.
There is a small rough spot shown in the fourth photo. There are no chips, cracks or crazing and no breaks.
