This doll is circa late Qing Dynasty (more than likely early 20th century). Known as opera dolls, merchant dolls or royal dolls, these were usually purchased as souvenirs at the Chinese opera.
Height is 10 1/8". Doll is comprised of what I believe to be a plaster or papier-mâché head and possibly wooden or papier-mâché hands. I believe the torso and legs and quite possibly the feet are wooden save for the material to create shoes that is adorning the feet.
Please note the areas of wear on the head/hair/face, hands, and feet. Note the paint loss at the edge of the doll's right ear, on the tip of the nose, and on the chin. Do ask if you need more photographs as I'll be happy to oblige. The head is removable, and rather than being a flaw, I've read that most of these dolls had removable heads.
A raised ornamental design as well as red, green and yellow ribbons adorn the hair.
The clothing is richly embroidered and the front placket looks to have been trimmed with fur, but most of this is absent. The clothing does have fading and wear. Specific areas are the red trim on either side of the front skirt and overall fading/wear of the clothing, particularly at stress points on the torso's front and back where the material was stretched to cover the body.
Your doll will be sent via Priority Mail and fully insured.
