This hatpin holder is more than likely circa 1930s (Thank you to www.gotheborg.com.) and is 4 ¾" in height and 2" square at the base. It is hand-painted with moriage and bears the Rising Sun mark with "hand-painted" above and "Nippon" below; however, the mark is very faint.
The hatpin, 5 ¼" in length (from the top of the bead to the tip of the metal pin) is more than likely of the Victorian era as most hatpins increased in length considerably after this time period.
The material of the bead is a plastic of sorts. It does generate static electricity when rubbed vigorously as amber does, but some plastics do as well so I cannot be certain if this is amber or a plastic material.
The bead is large and prominent. Its color and swirls are unique and eye-catching in the light.
This listing is for both the hatpin holder and the hatpin.
