This Notre Dame de Lourdes (Our Lady of Lourdes) music box was produced in France and depicts the apparition of the Virgin Mary as it appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in the grotto of Massabielle. It has the marks "Janeto" and "DSR" and is made of spelter. The music box, which plays "Ave Maria," works, but it's "plinky" sounding, if this makes sense. I believe this is owing to its age. Care must be taken to not overwind.
The music box stands 7.5" in height, and the base is 5" x 3". The underside has a wood panel and the number "1500" on it. While this is a vintage piece, I am not certain of its age. I've seen such pieces attributed to the early 1900s through 1930s.
Please note that the Virgin Mary probably had a halo, but this is no longer present. Her upper back near her neck has a place, which would be used to insert the halo, as seen most clearly in the last photo.
This piece weighs 30 ounces.
