**This is not the tarot one most associates with divination or cartomancy. This is an actual game played in France. There is even a Fédération Française de Tarot, which is marked on one of the cards in blue. (See photo seven, please.) This game is taken seriously in France.
This vintage French tarot deck is circa 1980s and is a reproduction of a deck manufactured by Grimaud in the late 1800s. Grimaud began his work in 1848, and this date is printed on the cards. Again, this deck is a reproduction and not an original deck.
Condition: The deck has surface wear; soiling, particularly around the cards' edges; and discoloration (owing to age and handling) on the front and back of each card. Because of limited photo space, I've not been able to show the cards in their entirety, but if you would like more photos of the deck, please don't hesitate to ask as I'll be happy to oblige. Also, no rules are included.
The 21 trump cards depict French life at the fin de siècle or end of the century. There is one fool (the card with the star). The face cards consist of Valet, Cavalier, Dame, and Roi. Translated, these are known as Jacks, Knights, Queens, and Kings.
The deck consists of 78 cards. The box exhibits wear to the front and back, sides, top, and bottom. Please see the last photo for the worn area on the top of the box where it is missing some of the design. Also, there is inked writing on the bottom of the box: Janvier 1987.
