This vintage cardboard church fan with an A. Scheer lithograph entitled "Christ Knocking at the Door" is circa 1950s. It depicts an image of Christ on the front and an advertisement for Herbert T. Quinn's funeral home (with a numerical hyphenated five digit phone number) in Chester, PA on the back. Measurements are 10.5" at its widest and 5" at its widest when closed. Height is 6 7/8".
Church fans were often used before the advent of air conditioning and they frequently had advertisements for local businesses, like this one. The front of the fans sometimes depicted religious themes or cute children, animals, and/or flowers.
***Condition: Please note the wear from use. When the fan is open, the left and right sides of the cardboard have folds in them. There is also wear in the form of small white areas where the color has rubbed off. (See Christ's foot and an area near the bottom of the door where it meets the wall. Also please note the hem of Christ's robe and the areas on his left below the end portion of his staff but above his foot. Another area is seen in the landscape.) Please note all edges of the fan have wear as well. Please let me know if you would like more photos as I'll be happy to oblige.
