This door knocker in the shape of an anchor has a plate that measures 4" in length and 1 1/8" at its widest. The anchor itself measures 3 1/2" in length and 2 1/4" at its widest.
The back has the number 761. I've seen this same door knocker with the 761 and JW on the back. The JW is attributed to the John Wright Company, which has been in business for 135 years. In the 1960s, they acquired the complete product line to the Wrightsville Hardware Company, which began in the 1880s.
My thoughts on the age of this piece: I believe this could be an original from the Wrightsville Hardware Company before John Wright acquired their product line and began creating reproductions. This also could have been produced by John Wright but just lacking the initials. I am listing it as vintage to err on the side of caution although it could be an antique.
The door knocker is in working condition and has an aged patina.
